About the Artist
I have been creating art since I could hold a crayon. Most of the subjects I enjoyed drawing as a child, I still enjoy painting: fairies, animals, flowers and trees. I have specialized in realistic fantasy portraiture and whimsical illustrations, and more recently, pet portraits. My first serious efforts in art began when I diligently copied fashion models out of the Sears catalogues. Many of those colorful patterns from the 70s and 80s still appear in my work today.
I earned a BFA in Painting and continue to take art courses in figure studies, landscape painting, color theory and portraiture. My preferred mediums are watercolor or colored pencil or pen & ink with a watercolor wash, but I'll give any medium a try! Acrylic paints are quite the challenge since they dry fast, but I have been doing lots of work in them in 2013 and enjoy the challenge of working quickly (but neatly).
Influences for my work are drawn from a wide range of sources. From Medieval literature, folk lore and fairy tales, Victorian illustrators and modern graphic design, I love to take in all types of visual references for future use. World mythology, Goddess art and fantasy fiction also influence my paintings. I'm an avid fan of Star Trek, Doctor Who and the peerless Anne Rice.
When I'm not painting, I enjoy gardening, vegetarian cooking and charity work..
Once in a while, I still work in crayon.
